When I made my profile book No 10, I thougt that would be my final Luftwaffer Fighter aircraft book, due to lack of original photos that could be turned into profiles. However as you all know by now, book No 11, 12 and 13 is by now published, including no less than 390 new German fighter profiles profiles. And from May 2023 when profile book No 13 was published I have made an additional 190 new profiles, most of them Luftwaffe fighters. And I´m still amazed when finding new profiles subjects, like this Bf 109 E-3 flown by no other than then the Experten Hans Phillipp. A Jagdwaffe pilot who would eventually claim no less than 206 victories before beeing killed in action 8 October 1943, therby he is ranked as Germanys 11th fighter ace. During the French campaign Leutnant Hans Philips claimed seven enemy aircraft shot down, the last, his eight a Spitfire downed at 20.50 hours south of Dieppe on 7 June. Even if the French Air Force, Armée de Láir was handicapped due to outdated organization, conservative tactical thinking, and equipment inferior to that of the Luftwaffe the French pilots had a stamina which could not easily be broken. Even if they were up against all odds, they put up a brave fight until the bitter end. In all the I./JG 76 claimed a total of 65 enemy aircraft over France, 11 of them from the RAF, all for the loss of one Bf 109. Note that this Emil was original camouflage in the defensive Dark Green camouflage of RLM 70/71 and later recived an overspray on the fuselage sides and wings in RLM 02. This new profile is one of just two profiles made during the week, much due to the C-4 OPEN (IMPS) gathering during the last weekend. |
