Profile no 42. Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6

Yellow 17 of the Stab./III./JG 300, Flown by Oberleutnant Gerhard Stamp, Oldenburg/Germany, Late October 1943
During the night of 23/24 August 1943, JG 300 filed their first Wild Boar claims of the war. In this spectacular "opening night" the unit claimed to have shot down no less than sixteen four-engine bombers. This Bf 109 was flown by Oblt. Stamp, who had the Bomber Clasp artwork applied to the engine cowling. As a former bomber pilot he simply loathed the flimsy Bf 109, and as a night-fighter pilot he would have preferred to continue flying the Ju 88. Note that this was a former JG 11 machine, with markings, numerals, and a heavy camouflage overspray typical of III./JG 11. However, after being transferred to JG 300, RLM 22 black was applied to the undersides for its nocturnal Wilde Sau missions.
