Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8/R2

Yellow 2, W.Nr. 682181, flown by Feldwebel Hubert Engst, 6./JG 300, Löbnitz/Germany, November 1944

Officially Fw. Hubert Engst is credited with 15 abshusse during the war years, claming his first, a Lancaster on 28 August 1943. However according to his son Wolfgang his father downed 20 four-engine bombers and one Mosquito for a total of 21 kills.

This machine was finally lost due to air-combat on 24 December crashing at Schwarzenborn, severely injured Engst for a second time.

Please note that this profile is an update of the profile originally published in my Limited Edition and later in my Profile book No 6. However this profile is depicting the machine at an earlier date, now with its rust-red fuselage band and the armoured cockpit plates still attached to the fuselage sides. Note also the EZ 40 lead calculating sight in the cockpit of Engst Fw 190 A-8/R2.

This new profile was made together with eight other profiles this week. It would not be included in the planned Luftwaffe Fighter books No 11 or 12, instead it would be put on hold for another future book in my Profile Book series.

Note that a later version of this profile was published in my Limited Edition and then in Profile Book No 6
