This hard cover book contains 124 extraordinary colour profiles, portraying examples of nearly all types of single-seated fighter aircraft used operationally by the Luftwaffe from the beginning to the end of the war. Many of the highly detailed profiles represent aircraft flown by some of the most famous and successful German aces, as well as those of little known pilots. The book contains over 100 original photos and many colour illustrations of Luftwaffe unit markings, camouflage colours, unit code styles, Reichverteidigung bands and related features which heighten the reader's appreciation of the aircraft profiles and provides a useful reference for modellers. In addition, this book presents for the first time ever a complete table displaying the true results of aerial combat in European and the Mediterranean theatres, year by year, from 1939 to 1945 inclusive. A comprehensive list of valuable references is also included for the reader to consult on a wide range of Luftwaffe subjects. Every profile is accompanied by a commentary written by Christer Bergström, one of Northern Europe's foremost authorities on WW II Luftwaffe history. These are not the standard, oft-published comments that reveal little new information on the subjects. Instead, Bergström goes much deeper and, for the first time from the perspective of a neutral country, provides new insights on the pilots and their aircraft. We believe that this book will serve as the perfect introduction to the evolution of the camouflage and markings of the Luftwaffe fighters in WW II for modellers and enthusiasts alike. At the same time, it will be highly appealing to those aviation connaisseurs who desire new information and a different perspective of a well studied subject. This book is just the beginning, as we plan to publish additional volumes about other Luftwaffe aircraft in the near future. Stay tuned! |
