I recently received my copy of
the latest Claes Sundin book with the same exact excitement and
pleasure I received all previous books of his profile series. These
are well published, illustrated and beautiful books that I highly
recommand to any aviation enthusiast. Beside a pleased reader,
I am an avid plastic kit modeller. Originally my interest in
modelling was more about the aircraft of today. Over the years,
more information helped my interest grow further back into the
history of aviation. Modelling is about documenting, building
and painting. A lot of photographs of aircraft of the era are
black and white photographs. Some countries had very standardized
liveries or colours and B&W photos are relatively easy to
interpret. This is not quite the case with late war German aircraft
because as the war developped, it was more and more difficult
for the Luftwaffe to fellow strict painting rules. I personnally
have no educated knowledge of the German building and painting
industrial process of the time nor any ability in interpreting
black and white photographs. That is were I faithfully depend
on Claes researches, knowledge and graphic skills. His books
helps me in documenting colours, camouflage schemes and markings.
Also his sharp profiles representing operationnal and weathered
aircraft as opposed to clean factory aircraft - are exactly
what I need. I never seem to get enough of them. As I said above
modelling is documenting, building and painting. Claes Sundin
profiles are my documentation and painting inspiration anytime
I plan to build a WW2 aircraft model.

With PR0FILE BOOK NO 11 Claes continues
to refine his art . Not only is the quality of the profiles at
a new level of detail but he has increased the amount of information
included with each caption. As a very helpful addition, he has
included an index of all 5 of his Luftwaffe Fighter profile books
making it much easier to locate other profiles of the same pilot.
The book covers a wide range of pilots, units and aircraft. I
would certainly recommend it to any Luftwaffe enthusiast and
I can't wait to see what is included in PR0FILE BOOK NO 12 Delmar/USA Somebody who is interested in Luftwaffe Sundins book series gives perhaps the most complete insight into what Luftwaffe fighters' planes look like in colour. How machines and their camouflage developed 1939-45. In this book Claes tells many new stories about pilots, historical situations in that time and gives interesting new information on how readers can differentiate individual aircraft factories by looking how camouflage is applied to aircraft. And how some fighter units used special field camouflage. Allu/Finland Following a concisely written, but non less interesting, introduction, is a nice pilot's index for all 5 books about the Luftwaffe fighters aircrafts. I've personally enjoyed opening previous books to have a look at the different planes for a same pilot at different times. Then come the core of the book. This book is perfectly in line with the previous book. Simply said, it is juste the highest standard of profiles. Those profiles are just so great because of the high attention given to numerous details. Profiles are not only about well known pilots but also about unknown or lesser known pilots. So you'll find a wide range of terrific aircrafts! From a clean Emil to lovely durty Kurfut and Dora! You'll even find a P-47! The captions are extensive and very informative giving a context to each profile. Sometimes the captions will attract your attention about details that you perhaps wouldn't have notice. Captions will also give you a more detailed information about the camouflage which I've found really helpful. The work in this book is outstanding. When I open a Claes Sundin's book I always have the same Wahou effect! This book is highly recommended! Antoine/Switzerland "In my opinion, there are two types of aircraft graphics. The first one, more or less correctly showcases the plane's camouflage and markings. The second is aviation art. With shading, wear, traces of operation, oil spills, dirt, the graphics truly come "alive". It's no question that Claes's books belong to the latter. Truly a work of art. What is staggering, is that with every book, he raises the bar even higher. More small details, more lifelike weathering. I believe there is only one explanation to this: Claes's ambitiousness, sophistication, his pursuit of perfection. To my mind, this is the reason why he is the best aviation artist today. The Luftwaffe Fighter Aircraft Profile Book No. 11 is a fantastic selection. It presents all the major types of German fighter's main types, and their camouflage variations. The expanded captions are well detailed and interesting. And the background informations helps you get to know the pilot, or the combat unit, where it flew. I've been dealing with the Luftwaffe for 30 years, but I always find something new in Claes's books! Bravo Claes, and thank you! P.S. I read No.11 over and over again, but I'm already looking forward to No.12. " Sándor/Hungary Pick up LFA 11 from the PO, lunch time. Have a good read on it now. I really like the pilot index showing what other profile book (s) the pilot has been in. Very nice to see what other aircraft they flew and what it looked like. A great reference guide. And as expected your work is outstanding as ever. I am looking forward as usual for your next releases. Derek/Bermuda Another beautiful book from you, I look forward the next two! David/France A typical "top-notch" Claes Sundin book! Nothing average about it, only great quality work which is reflected in the superior printing. The book has just enough content to provide the reader with a perfect overview. Many known and unknown German pilots with their aircraft are well illustrated. Good, concise research about men and their machines with wonderful easily read profiles. The wonder of machines with mysterious non-standard Luftwaffe camouflage schemes are so easily explained and presented by Claes. Details such as the squadron badges forever hidden in original black and white photographs are clearly visualized and brought to life, in colour. Coverage in his book is equally distributed amongst the several theatres such as ETO, MTO, eastern Front and Defence of the Reich, indicating the year of appearance for each German aircraft, either early Emil's or late Schwalbe's. The overarching index enables the reader to easily pinpoint a dedicated pilot with his mount (aircraft). Always curious when the next book will appear and always sure that the next one will be a solid investment, as all Claes books are. Jean Luc/Luxenbourg I have just received Claes Sundin´s Profile Book No. 11. The book follows the familiar pattern of Luftwaffe fighters in chronological order from 1939 and onwards to 1945. The profiles cover well known aces such as Günther Rall and Josef Priller but also aircraft of lesser known and even unknown pilots. This time Claes Sundin has really surpassed himself. The attention to detail is outstanding and the captions are most informative. The variety in colors and patterns is simply astonishing. Personal favorites are 'Johnny' Schmidt´s colorful Bf 109 F-2 and Otto Kittel´s less colorful but historically significant Fw 190 A-4. Highly recommended to all modellers and aviation enthusiasts! Fredrik/Sweden Your latest work, Profile Book No.11, was arrived on November, 8 (Mon) without fail. It took only ten (10) days to Japan under World wide spreading of COVID-19. It is quite miracle. Compared to the past works, the introduction of individual aircraft and its pilot has become more detailed. Your hard work is so great! I would express my sincere respect for your hard work on this issue. On the other hand, I found that the those profiles contained many aircraft that had already presented in other books by other publishers previously. Please note, however, that it is not a matter since your color image is not same as of other ones. So, I believe that your profiles are valuable for all the Customers. I wish your next work becomes even greater. Of course, I fully understood that the number of new photos and materials found has decreased since it was already passed 76 years after the end of the WW2.. However I hope that the next work No. 12 will include a lot of unpublished profiles. Hirotaka/Japan Your latest Luftwaffe Profile Book No. 11 is, if possible, your best profile book to date. I have followed your development both as a writer and as an illustrator since the first book "Luftwaffe Profiles" published by Schiffer in 1996. Since then, the profile pictures have developed incredibly well, with a very high level of detail and well-documented markings as well as camouflage colors. in the flight profiles. The captions, which have also developed enormously over the years, provide a very good background history to the many fascinating stories and human fates at the Luftwaffe units at the various war scenes that the Luftwaffe fought during WWII. The personal register for the ten profile books is much appreciated and facilitates the search for people. I am deeply impressed that you and your printer have managed to produce one of the absolute best flight books of the year - An excellent book that I would like to warmly recommend to anyone interested in the Luftwaffe aircraft and its pilots! Something that I would like to see more of in future profile books is "Update on new facts and findings regarding Luftwaffe camouflage colors, markings, band history, etc.". Otherwise, I am more than happy with your profile books and look forward to Luftwaffe profiles no. 12 and 13. "With this last book by Claes, it's an early Christmas. He has always been in the forefront when it comes to these profiles of the Luftwaffe's planes, always more elaborated and researched. In this book one find the profiles flown by pilots such as Heinrich Sturm, Siegfried Freytag, Albin Wolf, Hans-Joachim Birkner,. The insertion of an index is a very good idea, because it allows those who have the collection to easily find the pilot searched. The legends, well documented, are sources of specific knowledge about the pilots and participate in the excellence of this work. Hipp hurray for the upcoming profile books!!! Congratulations and thank you for all the joy you give in each new publication." Bruno/France The books arrived on Tuesday of the last week and I am delighted with them. James/USA I have received today the book and believe me every time you are release a new book you are supriced me , but this. the volume 11 is the more fascinated of all .It has so much bizarres and beautiful camo. in unlimited scale, most of them belong to my favorites , I would like to tell you that profile no 96 of JG /11, is the most mystical and gorgeous, I always was attractive by the pioneering low visibility camouflage of JG 11. Blurred markings and that blue/grey paint was always fascinated. Of course dozens profiles have the tittle fascinate and really hopes same situation for the future volumes. I am very enthusiasted, thanks so much, May God protecting you and your family, so you give us more enjoy in the future. Stomatios/Greece i received your book last Thursday. Uwe/Germany Just finish the reading of your new Luftwaffe fighters profile book, the 11th of the series; every book is better than the previous one, this one is on the top of quality and really difficult to be improved. The quality and details of the drawings are amazing and the text of each one is also impressive, quite interesting really and worthy to be read on detail; the addition of the pilot list vs profiles book is a very good idea and really helpful. The combination of profiles for very well know pilots and other really anonymous is also a good idea and the selection is really amazing. For me as modeler of airplanes of WWII is always a source of new models and after this book several new 109's or 190's are now included on my list for the next future, in summary other excellent work of superb quality and waiting for the next ones, very recommended for any lufwaffe fan. Toni/Belgium Book arrived today, What can I tell you, it's not a book but a work of art, something exciting, It's the truth Claes, your books are pure emotions, calling them 'books' is too simplistic, they are the mirror of wonderful flying war machines I just say: "Thank you for existing Claes ". Luigi/Italy I got the book on Tuesday. It's fantastic and I'm looking forward to next one. Thank you and have a nice weekend. Peter/Slovak Republic This new book from Claes is another gift for the Aviation (this time Luftwaffe) fans. It's difficult but the new book is indeed better than the previous ones (and this is really difficult because of the high quality of all his books). The profiles are top but this time the text for the captions are almost a book into a book, because they are very long and interesting. Claes is improving the state of the art in profile books. Besides, now there is a pilot index for all the Luftwaffe fighter books that can help us to find the mounts of each pilot. Kudos and thanks, Claes for your work because up to date your books are the better ones about the matter. Now as always waiting for the new books in which you are working now. A new MUST HAVE. Eduardo/Spain "Today I had the pleasure of getting my hands on the latest issue of Luftwaffe in Profiles. The first impression was great, great cover, high-quality workmanship of the hardback and first-class paper. Browsing through the 130 profiles is a real pleasure, all of the Luftwaffe fighters over the years are represented and of excellent quality. Super varied selection, also with wear and tear and traces of use. Exactly the right thing for the model maker. The accompanying texts are well researched and complete the presentation. Claes Sundin has once again outdone itself!" Thorsten/Germany This new book from Claes is another gift for the Aviation (this time Luftwaffe) fans. Toni/Belgium To my Surprise, your Book(s) was at my Door Sat. Afternoon. Only 2 Days for shipping from Door to Door. At a first look (think, I need several Weeks for),you as the Artist and your Bookprinter (let him know) reached a higher and even better Level to show those WW-2 Aircrafts and with the very informativ Text about each certain Plane and Pilot your Profiles comes (almost) to Life. Very Impressive. I just imagine, how much Time You've spend for research of the 130 Planes, you show this Time. With a magnifying Glass you can even detect the Dates of the Victories painted at the Rudders of some of the Aircrafts. Goosebumping. The (weathered) Colours show the reality, because those Planes stood most outside enduring extreme Temps., sandblasting (Africa) and the circumstances in a War. So your Profiles are the Best available right now. With best Wishes to you and your Art in your future Books. Fritz Braun/Germany The book arrived on Saturday. It is truly amazing! The profiles are top quality and the text information per profile is excellent. Compared to the first books, the text got ever more longer and included more information. I really like the mix of profiles included in book 11. Especially that you included a MC202 and a Thunderbolt. Really looking forward to books 12 and 13. Matthias/Germany Profile book no. 11 is in my hand and once again Claes has surpassed himself. The profiles are even more carefully executed, colored and with the excellent text as the icing on the cake. Very impressive! The colors and details are very well done, especially in my opinion the important aspect of color shades and variations on these, especially towards the end of the war. The book is highly recommended by me. Jonas/Sweden |
