On this day, 8 May 1941 Oblt. Horst Geyer flew a mission over the chanell protecting the back of his Kommandeur Major Werner Mölders. At 12.20 hours Mölders claimed his 68th abschusse, a Spitfire over Dover.

However more remakable was that the wingman of Mölders, Geyer claimed an additional three Spitfires within a space of just five minutes over the town. Two of them was later confimed as his 4th to 5th victory.

Checking the RAF losses for this day, one can conclude that all of the two Germans claimes was valid, three Hurricanes from No 302 Sqn was lost including a Spitfire MK II from no 616 Sqn.

F/L Z J Kinel was KIA while S/L P Laguna and Sgt M B Domagala manage to bail out of their crippled machines, both was decalred as safe. The Spitfire, flown by no other than the RAF ace F/O John C Dundas was hit but he manage to limp back and crash landed at Hawkinge, the fighter was later declared to have Cat B damage, "Repairable at second line"

Horst Gayer was able to survive the war, he last command was as an Major in III/EJG 2 flying the Me 262. In total he is accredited with 31 confirmed victories.
