Yellow 1 (Red 2), flown by Oberleutnant Erich "Baby" Hartmann, 9./JG 52, Warzyn/Poland, 24 August 1944

When the 7./JG 52 left for the West, the III./JG 52 was reorganized in the East on 15 August, The Gruppenkommandeur was Hauptmann Wilhelm Batz, Staffelkapitän for the 9th was Oberleutnant Erich Hartmann, in command of the 10th Staffel was Oblt. Friedrich Obleser and for the 11th Staffel, Oblt.Ludwig Neuböck was in charge. The reorganization resulted in that the 9th was to paint their Yellow staffel numerals in white, the 10th in Black and the 11th Staffeln new Staffel color was to be Yellow. As a result when Hartmann scored his 292nd to 300rd abshüsse, nine days later, on the 24 August his create numeral had by this time been repainted in White. However it is interesting to note the his second machine that he used, still had its numeral painted in Yellow.
