Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6

Yelow 1, flown Leutnant Friedrich "Fritz" Karch, 6./JG 2, Vitry-en-Artois/France 30 July 1943

This day when the 8th USAAF dispatch 200 B-17 bombest to attack aircraft industries in the Kassel region the JG 2 claimed 12 of the attackers including three P-47 from their escort. One of the triumphant pilots this day was Lt. Fritz Karch who attacked a B-17 at 7,000 meters height and shot it down for his 12th abschuss. In all the JG 2 filed four fighters lost during this battle, with one pilot KIA, one MIA and one WIA. Karch ended the war as Hauptmann and the commader of II./JG 2 with a total score of 47 victories.
