3C+IP of 6./NJG 4,
Fown by Feldwebel Günther Konzack, Coulommiers/France, 2
May 1944
In
an effort to ward off RAF attacks against trains and railway
infrastructure in and around Paris, the 6th Stafeln was on this
day relocated from St. Dizier to Coulommiers, east of Paris.
During the transfer flight however, bad weather disorientated
one crew and the pilot finally landed in neutral Switzerland
at the Basel-Birsfelden air force base. Luckily, Fw. Konzack
put the machine down on the part of the aifield planted with
beans that bombarded the fuselage during the landing. According
to Bordfunker Uffz. Ruprecht, it sounded just like impacts from
machine gun bullets. The bean stalks did however manage to slow
down the speed of the heavy machine and it stopped just in front
of a hangar. This aircraft was equipped with an array of radar
and radio antennas. These including the combined FuG 202 Lichtenstein
B/C search and FuG 227 passive radar combination, and those for
the radio communication equipment which consisted of a FuG X
with TZG 10 and FuG 16 ZE VHF transceiver.
