Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8

During April and May 1945 losses mounted for the II./JG 300. In all 21 Fw 190 was lost in combat and with them seven pilots listed as KIA or MIA.

The largest loss for the Gruppe occur on 16 April when P-51 Mustangs attacked their base at Straubing and eleven Fw 190 was lost with another seven damage. However the next day on 17 April the Bf 109 equipped IV Gruppen was hit hard and lost a staggering 24 Messerschmitts to the attacking Mustangs.

Finally on 3 May on its way to Salzburg the II Gruppen lost an aditional nine Fw 190 stranded at Bad Abling Airodrome, probably due to lack of fuel for a continue flight.

During this period the Gruppe pilots filed claims for a total of 14 enemy aircraft. Ther last one, a P-47 Thunderbolt was claimed by Lt. Hans-Dieter Oehm on 27 April 1945.

This pericular Fw 190 A-8 "Yellow 5" from 6./JG 300 is a AGO produced machine with its typical large spots on the fuselage was found by allied troops when the Gruppe surrender at Neubiberg air base in southern part of Germany.

Note the late war camouflage colors of RLM 81 and RLM 82 and the Blue White Blue fuselage band of JG 300.
