This unit could
hardly be characterized as successful since during its 10 months
of existence it managed to chalk-up only 18 confirmed victories.
The most successful pilots where the Gruppenkommandeur Major
Rudolf Schönert and the Staffelkapitän of 1./JGr. 10
Hptm. Friedrich-Karl Müller, both with three victories each.
Günter Migge, who achieved his first five abschüssen
with JG 300, did not score any more night kills until he moved
on to 1./NJG 11, where he was able to score his sixth and final
abschuss of the war. Note that while the aircraft wears its original
day fighter camou age, Migge's Fw 190 A-8 was also equipped with
the FuG 217 J2 Neptun AI radar, with two pairs of antenna diploes
arranged horizontally on the left wing and vertically on the
right wing that together induced significant drag and impairing
the aircraft's performance. As well, it was fitted with an exhaust
shroud to avoid night blinding the pilot, and gun shrouds on
the engine cowling for the same purpose. The inscription under
the Wild Boar emblem reads "Kognak pumpe", Migge's
favorite alcohol brand.
